Transformation of London borough will see road mortars tried and tested before use

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and its Exhibition Road partners are teaming up with Imperial College London to install a trial panel on the Imperial College site to road test The partnering of the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and Imperial College London will transform the Exhibition Road area into a magnificent pedestrian-friendly realmmaterials for the transformation of the city’s premier cultural destination.

The project team and Imperial College will carry out a series of technical tests on the panel over the next twelve months to select the most durable mortar for the road, as well as conduct in-depth assessments of testing regime and edge details. The panel structure will be closely monitored for any changes throughout all weather conditions in a series of month-by-month tests.

Cllr Daniel Moylan, deputy leader of the Council said: “At the heart of the redesign of Exhibition Road is our desire to create a safe and attractive environment for everyone to enjoy, and with the area attracting over 11 million visitors each year, we are mindful of ensuring that the striking single surface is as durable as it is attractive."
