News that the Planning Bill has gained Royal Assent will speed up the delivery of new projects
The CBI has welcomed yesterday's announcement that the Planning Bill had gained Royal Assent.
The Planning Act will fundamentally change how decisions will be made for large infrastructure projects, removing unnecessary planning delays. CBI deputy director-general, John Cridland, said: "Today is a good day for British business. For too long billions of pounds worth of much needed investment in Britain’s infrastructure has been delayed by our cumbersome planning system.
"The Planning Act will speed up decisions that are in the national interest. This will encourage investment and help the economy. Importantly, it will allow the construction of new power sources, improving our energy security and helping us tackle climate change. The Planning Act, however, is the end of the beginning. Government must start the national debate on the UK’s future infrastructure needs by publishing National Policy Statements as quickly as possible."
